PROPERTIES OF LAVENDER PROPIEDADES DE LA LAVANDA |
| The word
Lavender
comes from the Latin word "lavare" which means "to
wash". Since ancient times Lavender has been used in baths to
disinfect,
relieve inflammation and
relax. The powers of this herb are
not just an ancient superstition, it is proven scientifically that
Lavender does, indeed, possess antiseptic and other healing properties.
During the beginnings of the 1900s a very important French perfume chemist burned his hand in a laboratory accident. In desperation he introduced it in the first container of liquid he found, this being Lavender oil. He felt the pain disappear and the skin healed with no scarring. He discovered a new property, Lavender oil can also be used for burns. Many people, especially in France hang Lavender sachets or Lavender bunches in the corners of their rooms to keep flies, mosquitoes and other insects away. They can also be kept inside drawers acting as a moth repellent. Lavender oil can be rubbed on skin to keep insects from crawling on. This method works well on animals, too. Just rub some oil on their skin to prevent lice and fleas. Lavender as an antiseptic and disinfectant, can be used for cuts, bruises and insect bites. The oil can be added to boiling water to relieve colds, bronchitis and flu by inhaling the vapors. This can also help depression and anxiety. For a very relaxing massage, a few drops of this herbal oil can be added to grape seed oil or to your favorite lotion or shower gel. For prevention of hair loss, massages can be performed before bedtime. Do not ingest essential oils, they are meant for external use only. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or have any gastrointestinal problem before using essential oils. Lavender flowers act as an astringent, by adding them to facial toners or aftershave lotions, oily skin can get regulated. An infusion of the flowers (make sure they are for consumption) can be used as a gargle to relieve sore throats, colds, flu, bronchitis or any infection involving mouth and/or throat. Lavender baths can also help relieve stomach problems like lack of appetite, colic or flatulence. The list of properties seems interminable. Start experiencing the miracles of LAVENDER. Once you know it, it is impossible to not have it.

| La palabra
Lavanda
